CIA PAULISTA JIU-JITSU AND MMA
In 2002, I made a decision to begin training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after witnessing first hand how effective it is in mixed martial arts events like the the UFC. I had no idea at that time how much this decision would affect the rest of my life. I knew that most altercations end up on the ground and was drawn to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I walked into Professor Fabian Iha's (4th degree black belt) Vale Tudo class in Huntington Beach. Professor Fabiano had a good run in the UFC 20-33, Pride and KOTC. I received my blue belt from Professor Fabiano and had the opportunity to train alongside notable MMA fighters as they were rising or at their peak like Tito Ortiz, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, Ricco Rodriguez, Dan Henderson, Jason Miller and Dean Lister. When my seven-year-old son took an interest in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I began teaching kids classes under Professor Paulo Gazze Jr. (Cia Paulista 3rd degree black belt). I thought I was going to help kids learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but I discovered that I was helping kids develop confidence, discipline and respect as well as learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In 2004, Professor Fabiano moved out of the area and I was recruited by Cia Paulista's founder, Master Waldomiro Perez Jr. (6th degree black belt and Judo black belt). I also trained concurrently with Master Joe Moreira (8th degree Coral Belt) and received my purple and brown belts from Master Waldomiro and Master Joe shortly after winning gold and bronze at the BJJ Tour championships. Approximately a year later I was promoted to Brown belt by Master Waldomiro Perez Jr., Master Eduardo Leitao (4th Degree black belt and Cia Paulista's Head Coach) and Master Joe Moreira.
I continue teaching adults, women, kids and private lessons at REV while training under training daily for my personal growth. When I am not training you might find me surfing in Newport or Huntington or gardening. I commit myself to the development of my students - on and off the mats - and share the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle with them. Learning a very effective martial art is amazing but learning how to apply it's principles to my life and helping others to do the same is priceless. Watching new students grow and achieve their goals is probably the most rewarding part of my academy. Helping students lose 60 pounds, live a happier life, lead a healthier life, gain an optimistic perspective about the present and develop unshakeable self-confidence never gets old! This what training Brazilian JiuJitsu does for it's practitioners when pursued in an academy that is teaching real JiuJitsu. It's all about living life in this great space called the Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle. Whether I am working with a 5-year-old student, an MBA student, a busy professional, a mother of three kids or a retired business owner, it is in our training room that all walks of life intersect and experience the Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle. From our training room we re-enter the world with renewed vision, mental toughness and the glow of confidence.
